Let’s start with "what is i-Size"? It’s the name of a new EU safety legislation aimed at increasing the safety level of child car seats that was introduced in July 2013. Crucially, the legislation states that babies must travel rear-facing for at least the first 15 months (older regulations advised 9-12 months). So safety is key, which is welcome news to all parents. But do not fear, i-Size is not replacing existing legislation, it is just an alternative option which has been tested to higher safety levels. I-Size car seats do require the use of ISOFIX, which means less chance of fitting incorrectly. The main difference in choosing an i-Size car seat is that it uses your child’s length as classification as opposed to weight – so get measuring your child to make sure you buy the right i-Size car seat.
