Pregnancy Week 37

Congratulations! You're on your period and in no time you'll be hugging your baby for the first time. Take advantage of the last few days to rest and relax in anticipation of the big day.

Having entered your period, you may be doing a little… labor rehearsal with Braxton Hicks contractions. Most babies are born at 40 weeks, but it's a good idea to be prepared for the following signs of impending labor:

  • The waters break releasing the amniotic fluid that surrounds the baby
  • Contractions become more intense and regular than the preparatory ones (Braxton Hicks)
  • The mucus that covers the opening of the cervix is removed

You feel excited, impatient and anxious at the same time. The 37th week brings no new symptoms, but the need to rest remains. At this week's ultrasound you will discuss the labor with your doctor or midwife and they will check the position of the baby (you can already feel the pressure of the head in your pelvis). Labor is imminent and will happen to 5% of moms this week.

From head to toe, the baby is 48.6 cm long and weighs 2.8 kg. The soft fluff that covered his skin (lanugo) begins to fall off, as does the white viscous substance (vernix caseosa) that surrounds him (the baby swallows them and prepares for his first poo). On the head, however, hair grows and acquires its first look!

Τhings to do in Pregnancy Week 34

If you haven't already packed your maternity bag , now is the time to do so. You will be thrilled to pick out his first tiny clothes and all the essentials for his arrival. Your doctor or midwife will inform you about your birthing options and make sure to answer all your questions.

Did we make a birth plan? If not, now is the time! After the briefing you have received with the preparation courses this is the right time to put your own thoughts and decisions on paper. Make your own birth plan, noting the points that are important to you about the details of the obstetric care you want to be provided during labor and breastfeeding. Communicate this plan to your doctor or midwife and discuss your options with them.

Do birthing exercises and breathing exercises every day! Childbirth is in your hands and you can make it more painless and easy through actions during your pregnancy!
